Several hundred cubic yards of debris was recently removed from the Scuylkill River by Lewis Environmental.
Lewis Environmental recently completed the removal of a dangerous log and debris jam which had accumulated on the Schuylkill River in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Working from a former railroad crossing bridge, Lewis’ team utilized mechanical methods to remove and relocate the debris. Chainsaw operators worked from atop the floating debris pile to size and rig debris ranging in size from smaller branches to logs weighing several tons. The debris was lifted to the bridge deck using a 50 ton crane where it was sorted, removed from the bridge and deposited into the woods adjacent to the Schuylkill River Trail using a skid loader.
During the work, a collection boom was set-up downstream of the bridge and floating trash released from the debris jam during removal was collected and ultimately removed and disposed.
Several hundred cubic yards of debris were removed and relocated or properly disposed. This section of river is popular for kayaking and canoeing and the debris posed a serious danger to boaters for the upcoming Schuylkill River Sojourn from June 2 through June 8, 2018
