The Lewis Group Offers Helping Hand to PA Project

Volunteering manpower and equipment to enhance Veterans Cemetery Garden

The Lewis Group recently partnered with The SAME Philadelphia Post on a project for veterans at Washington Crossing National Cemetery (WCNC) in Upper Makefield Township, Pennsylvania. The new veterans cemetery for Southeastern Pennsylvania is near the historic village of Dolington and construction will be completed in phases over fifty years.

“We are honored and very proud to be involved with the Washington Crossing National Cemetery,” said Rick Lewis, President and CEO of the Lewis Group that supports three divisions– Lewis Environmental, Lewis Development and Lewis Property Services. “The overlapping capabilities of our professional divisions provided the project with exactly what was needed and we couldn’t be happier to contribute to this great cause.”

The Lewis Group volunteered support in labor, equipment and materials to assist in the construction of a scatter garden at the Washington National Cemetery at the Bucks County site. Some of the Lewis Group employees that contributed to the beautification of the cemetery were service veterans from various branches of the US Armed Forces.

WCNC is a United States National Cemetery located in Newtown, Bucks County. The cemetery serves as a final resting place for veterans in the greater Philadelphia area.

Lewis Environmental was asked to participate in a volunteer effort to work along with Tetra Tech and SAME (Society of American Military Engineers) to construct an ash garden where families of veterans can spread their ashes amongst a specific area located within the grounds of the cemetery.

Lewis Environmental quickly jumped at the opportunity to volunteer manpower and equipment for the project. Lewis Group Director of Business Development, Rob Hilliard was assigned as the project manager and met the team from Tetra Tech and the WCNC Management onsite to review the scope of work and start planning for the construction of a wall around the garden.

On Tuesday September 10, 2019 the team consisting of Rob Hillard, Brandon Smith (Lewis Group Vice President of Operations), Ricky True (Veteran) and Cara Riordan (Veteran) started Phase 1 of the project by installing a double tier concrete wall to act as a backdrop to the garden. The project took two days to complete

“The overall self-satisfaction of working on this project with such a great team was overwhelming,” added Hilliard.
