Opportunity exists for everyone, and here at The Lewis Group we are committed to giving people a foundation to build a career.
As part of MontcoWorks, an initiative designed to meet the diverse needs of employers and job seekers in Montgomery County, The Lewis Group participates by offering workforce training and mentoring. Company President and CEO, Rick Lewis serves on the board of MontcoWorks and The Lewis Group supports many of the group’s proactive programs.
“We work in a forward-thinking county where a strategic program exists to strengthen the regional workforce,” said Lewis whose company includes three divisions and employs more than 150 people. “MontcoWorks is a benefit to workers, employers and the entire community.”
Among the various partnerships that The Lewis Group supports is SLIP, MontcoWorks’ State Local Internship Program. This past summer the Lewis’ Talent Development department hosted a full-time intern as part of the program.
Samantha Quintero from Saint Joseph’s University worked directly with The Lewis Group’s Talent Development Manager, Jennie Romano.
The three-month internship provided Samantha with a variety of hands on experience and Romano with an extra set of hands.
“It’s an amazing program,” Romano said. “Employers really benefit as much as the participants.”
At the culmination of the SLIP term, MontcoWorks hosted a College and Career Leadership Council (CCLC) event where college and career readiness leaders from each of the county’s 21 school districts attended to hear about the excellent examples of work-based learning and credentialing.
At the October 3rd presentation, Romano was invited to speak, and Quintero was Skyped in to contribute.
Romano shared a history of The Lewis Group’s involvement in MontcoWorks, their businesses concentrations, their collaborative vision to support the community and the an overview of the SLIP experience from the employer’s prospective. On the big screen Quintero describe her summer internship experience.
“It really gives participants a leg up,” Quintero, who is majoring in Human Resource Management, told the group of 35+ educators. “I feel much more prepared to enter the workforce.”
The Lewis Group also recently facilitated a specialized forklift training in which participants received credentials making them more employable and Romano also synopsized that effort for the CCLC event.
“With MontcoWorks and participating employers,” she said, “it doesn’t matter if you plan on going to college or not. Opportunity exists for everyone, and here at The Lewis Group we are committed to giving people a foundation to build a career.”
